JOHANN STRAUSS, Jr.

1825 – 1899

The music-loving Austrians have honored the waltz king JOHANN STRAUSS, Jr on a 100 Schilling note issued in 1960. He was the most popular composer of operettas and waltzes including the most famous “The Blue Danube”.

Although Strausses grandparents were already converted to catholicism, Hitler’s authorities went to extreme length to eradicate any trace of his Jewish ancestry, which was officially recognized by the post war authorities.
